Hi!! new member here

From: Kathie (Mskathie32@aol.com) | Date: 2003-07-30 05:07:40 UTC
Hello my name is Kathie and I am a 37 year old SAHM of 6. In looking
for ghost towns/old mining towns I came across the word letterboxes
and was curious on what they were. So in looking them up I came
across this group. :O)

I do hope that I can get much needed help here in seeking and finding
out what I need to do to start this new hobby.

I live in Lancaster Ca and am in LA county and near Kern county. If
anyone can give me much needed info and where to begin and all this
would be great! we are hoping to be heading into Kern county again
this week so send me the email soon! ((HUGGS)) ~Kathie

Hi Kathie,

Welcome to a wonderful hobby! You are going to love it. I was hooked last
spring and have become a woman obsessed since :-) Some resources that I
found helpful are the getting started link on the LBNA website
(www.letterboxing.org) and a letterboxer named Ryan has a page that he did
that has some of the straight up as far as answering some of the questions
that some don't always dare ask as newbies. It is located at
http://www.geocities.com/rscarpen/Lb/Docs/Newbies/ Ryan is currently hiking
the Appalachian Trail, so if you see references to Ryan or "the Green
Turtle" that's who they are talking about.

Hope to see you on the trail. Oh, and while I'm here I'll put in a
shameless plug. If you ever make it out to Idaho, let me know. If you are
still interested in ghost towns, I am planting a series next week in a ghost
town here in ID.

Happy hunting!
Cadenza

Hi Kathie,And welcome to the group. Go to www.letterboxing.org and
you will find all kinds of info. I live in San Dimas, Just the other
side of the valley from you. there is a group that is placing boxes
all over the Agoura hills. I don't think thats too far from you.
I'm sure you and your family will find many hours of fun time
together doing this hobby. Purple Iris

Thanks! That makes sense. Do the kids love boxing, Kathie? I wish LB had been around when my own were young. I know it would have been a great family outing and adventure!

I found by first letterboxes with my son(41) daughters, (38,31) &
granddaughters(14, 7) and me (70) with all the information on an Easter weekend when we
were together.
Never to later to introduce your kids to new things.

Wow! your message caught my attention because I am brand new at letterboxing but am also an avid scrapbooker.
I am in Maryland and just read the article in Family Fun. The next day we found our first box. We still have a lot to learn but had a great time.
